STUDENT
ACHIEVEMENTS
Class
of 2010: This year, Psychology’s
20 seniors scored at the 99th
percentile rank on the Major Field Test in Psychology,
again in the top 1% of domestic universities. Two seniors presented perfect 200
scores! So far, our graduates have
been accepted into graduate programs at Cincinnati Medical School and Tennessee (Knoxville).
Class
of 2009: Last year, Psychology’s
29 seniors scored at 97th
percentile rank on the Major Field Test in Psychology,
again achieving our goal to be in the top 5% of psychology departments. Members of this class are now in graduate
programs at Wisconsin (Madison), Michigan State, Tennessee Medical
School, Indianapolis, IUPUI, and Pacific Graduate School of Psychology
(Stanford Medical School Consortium).

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS
DR. MARGARET STEVENSON
Dr.
Stevenson published three major
research reports in the Journal
of Applied Social Psychology, Journal
of Aggression, Maltreatment, and Trauma, and Law and Psychology Review.
In addition, she published a chapter
in Child Victims, Child
Offenders: Psychology and Law.
She is a peer reviewer
for the journal of Basic and
Applied Social Psychology, and she serves on the editorial board of the Journal
of Forensic Psychology.
Dr.
Stevenson published a commentary
in the APA Child Maltreatment
Newsletter with a UE student as co-author. She also presented papers at the annual meetings of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychology and Law Society. She had four additional poster presentations at four different society
meetings, all mainstream, and one with four UE students as
co-authors. She served as a conference reviewer for the
APA.
Dr.
Stevenson and a student were awarded a UExplore Grant for
$725, and Dr. Stevenson was awarded an ART grant for $1,900.00.
In addition, she and four student research assistants were awarded
an external grant of $300 by the
Midwestern Psychological Association and Psi Chi.
Dr.
Stevenson won the American Psychology and Law Society’s (APA Division 41)
2008 First-Place Dissertation Award.
Dr.
Stevenson was the subject of several local newspaper articles.
DR. ELIZABETH HENNON
Dr.
Hennon published a major research
report in the Journal of Speech,
Language, and Hearing Research.
In addition, she was a peer
reviewer for six journals: Journal of Autism and Developmental
Disabilities, Developmental
Psychology, Child Development,
American Journal on Mental
Retardation, Journal of Speech,
Language, and Hearing Research, and Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate
Research.
Dr.
Hennon and UE students presented papers at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research and the Butler Undergraduate Research
Conference. She and her
students were awarded UExplore
Grants for $11,125.
Dr.
Hennon won the University of Evansville’s 2008 Berger Award for Scholarship.
Dr.
Hennon was interviewed on several local television programs, and her
research was featured on ABC national television.
DR. LORA BECKER
Dr.
Becker and five UE students presented a research report at the annual meeting of the International Behavioral
Neuroscience Society concerning the developmental effects of prenatal
photestrogen exposure. She and her
students were awarded three UExplore Grants that totaled $2,340 for other
research projects concerning the effects of oral contraceptives,
amphetamines, and distorted vision.
Dr.
Becker has been featured in the local news. She is also active in community affairs
as a board member and officer of the AIDS Resource Group.
DR. MARK KOPTA
Dr.
Kopta and two UE students presented a paper concerning mass murders at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association.
Dr.
Kopta is director of the CelestHealth Research Group that
examines the effects of psychiatric medication and psychotherapy. CHRG has two research centers—one at
Marquette University and the other at University of Trier, Germany—and
several research sites including Harvard University Health Services,
Johns Hopkins University Counseling Center, University of Minnesota
Counseling and Consulting Services, and U.S. Air Force primary medical
centers. Three UE students assist
in this research project.
Dr.
Kopta presented invited seminars
to the Harvard University Health
Services clinical staff. Both focused on his research on assessment of treatment
outcomes.
Dr.
Kopta is a peer reviewer for Psychotherapy Research.
Dr. Kopta was interviewed by ABC national radio, and his
work concerning mass murders was featured on both national and
local radio and television news programs.
He is also active in community affairs
as a board member of Southwestern Indiana Mental Health Center.
